South Africa thrash Zimbabwe by 328 runs in first test

Chasing an improbable target of 537 runs, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 208 on the fourth day of the Test, falling well short as South Africa’s bowlers dominated proceedings.

BULAWAYO: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 1st, 2025) South Africa on Tuesday thrashed Zimbabwe and beat the hosts by 328 runs in the first Test of the two-match series held at the Queens sports Club in Bulawayo.

Chasing an improbable target of 537 runs, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 208 on the fourth day of the Test, falling well short as South Africa’s bowlers dominated proceedings.

Earlier, South Africa had declared their first innings at 418 for 9, backed by a brilliant 153-run knock from Luhan de Pretorius, who was later named Player of the Match. In their second innings, the visitors added another 369 runs, setting Zimbabwe a mammoth target.

Zimbabwe’s response was underwhelming. The hosts managed 251 runs in the first innings and could only add 208 in the second, crumbling under pressure and failing to build any significant partnerships.

The second and final Test of the series will also take place in Bulawayo, from July 6 to 10, where Zimbabwe will look to bounce back and level the series.
