Discussions are underway for Ronaldo to potentially join rival Saudi club Al-Hilal, following his apparent signal of departure from Al-Nassr
RIYADH: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-May 29th, 2025) Saudi authorities are reportedly making every possible effort to prevent Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo from leaving the country, amid ongoing speculation about his future with Al-Nassr Football Club.
According to a report by AFP, discussions are underway for Ronaldo to potentially join rival Saudi club Al-Hilal, following his apparent signal of departure from Al-Nassr. Sources indicate that a transfer to Al-Hilal is the top option being considered to retain the star forward within the Saudi Pro League.
Such a move would allow Ronaldo to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, with Al-Hilal already qualified. A special transfer window from June 1 to June 10 will be opened specifically for the 32 teams participating in the tournament, allowing them to sign top-tier players.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino had stated last week that Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to appear in the upcoming Club World Cup, fueling speculation that he might soon be parting ways with Al-Nassr.
Adding to the rumors, Ronaldo posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter) just hours after the Saudi Pro League concluded. “This chapter is over,” he wrote, followed by, “The story? Still being written. I’m grateful to everyone on this journey.”
Ronaldo signed with Al-Nassr in January 2023 on a lucrative £164 million-per-year deal. During his tenure, he scored an impressive 93 goals in 105 appearances. His biggest achievement at the club was winning the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, although the Saudi Pro League title eluded him.
The 39-year-old joined Al-Nassr in 2022 after parting ways with Manchester United, marking a major shift in his career and boosting global attention on Saudi football.
