Aamir Butt who successfully scaled the 8,051-meter Broad Peak, shared his future plans before his return to the U.S.
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-August 1st, 2024) – Aamir Butt, the first American-Pakistani climber to reach the world’s twelfth highest peak, Broad Peak, is now focused on conquering another summit.
The 58-year-old mountaineer acknowledged the common belief that age and decreasing stamina might hinder such high-altitude adventures.
Butt, who successfully scaled the 8,051-meter Broad Peak, shared his future plans before his return to the U.S.
He was talking to a local private tv in Lahore on Thursday.
He has been living in the U.S. for 32 years and has spent two decades mountaineering in North America, although he had not previously tackled peaks of this height.
However, he stated that reaching Broad Peak has only strengthened his resolve and confidence. Butt is now planning to summit another peak exceeding 8,000 meters, noting that while Broad Peak may appear less challenging, it posed significant difficulties.
Fueled by his passion for climbing, Butt traveled to Nepal with the intention of conquering the five highest peaks in Pakistan. He successfully ascended Broad Peak with the support of Sheroz Kashif, known as Broad Peak Boy.
In addition to his mountaineering achievements, Butt has a notable record in various endurance events. He has participated multiple times in four of the six major marathons held in Europe and the U.S., representing Pakistan in a total of 33 marathons. Furthermore, he has competed in Ironman events, which combine swimming, cycling, and running.
