Firewall testing and slow internet speed

According to senior journalist Umar Cheema’s report, the experimental operation of the firewall has slowed down social media speeds in the country.

The Informed officials aware of the situation have indicated that this is the reason behind the growing concerns about the future of internet-based businesses in the country. Officials have stated that internet traffic and speeds will return to normal once the trial ends.

The government has allocated over 30 billion rupees from the development budget to acquire and install this filtering system.

An official mentioned that work on the firewall has been ongoing since January this year, which includes the procurement and installation of the system.

The system is now installed and is being activated, with a few weeks required to hand over control to the relevant authorities.

Another official said that the purpose of this system is to control social media influencers who, in the government’s view, are involved in spreading fake news.

The aim of the firewall is to hide or block the content of these influencers.
