Federal Cabinet defers discusion about ban on PTI

The meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair discussed measure to safeguard the national interests.

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 24th, 2024) The Federal cabinet deferred discussion about banning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the sources said on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the cabinet meeting in Islamabad.

The meeting, however, discussed the ways to protect and safeguard the national interests.

Earlier, the reports suggested that the ban on PTI was part of the agenda.

The discussion, they said were to cover the proposed ban on PTI, and the possibility of invoking Article 6 against former President Arif Alvi, PTI founder Imran Khan and former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.

The ccabinet was also set to review a summary on visa-free entry for foreign investors, as well as the establishment of special courts under the SECP Act. Additionally, the meeting will consider a memorandum of understanding between Pakistan and Denmark, the appointment of the Chairman of the Evacuee Trust Property board, and an increase in the number of Privatization Commission members.

Following the cabinet’s approval, a reference would be sent to the Supreme Court, and their passports and identity cards would be blocked.

This process would be conducted within the constitutional and legal framework.

A few days ago, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar announced in a press conference that the federal government had decided to ban PTI. He mentioned that Article 6 proceedings would be initiated against Arif Alvi, Imran Khan, and Qasim Suri.
