Mayorkas, Mexican Minister Agree To Boost Cooperation On Migration - US Homeland Security

US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Marcelo Ebrard have agreed to boost their direct collaboration on dealing with cross-border migration issues, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said on Thursday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2021) US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Marcelo Ebrard have agreed to boost their direct collaboration on dealing with cross-border migration issues, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said on Thursday.

"On Wednesday ... Mayorkas spoke with Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Relations Marcelo Ebrard," the DHS said in a readout of the conversation. "[The two secretaries] discussed deepened collaboration on the development of regional approaches to irregular migration, including through the creation of legal pathways for migrants in the region."

Mayorkas and Ebrard also expressed a mutual desire to work together to create economic opportunities across the Western Hemisphere and combat unlawful activities such as human smuggling that threatened both countries' national and economic security, the readout said.

The two officials also emphasized their shared focus on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation, agreed to work together on COVID-19 mitigation measures, the readout added.
