JERUSALEM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2020) Russian President Vladimir Putin, upon his arrival in Israel, has noted his close cooperation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and expressed hope that his visit to the country will be good for bilateral ties.

"We regularly and very closely cooperate with the prime minister and have long ago agreed on this visit to Israel. I am convinced that this will benefit the development of our bilateral relations. And, of course, we all have a big mission today to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust," Putin said.

The Russian president also thanked Netanyahu and his wife for the invitation and their hospitality.

At the beginning of the meeting, Putin, in particular, presented Sara Netanyahu with a bouquet of flowers, warmly greeting her.

Putin arrived in Israel earlier on Thursday to attend the 5th World Holocaust Forum, which is timed to the 75th anniversary of the Red Army's liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. Later in the day, the two leaders will also open a monument in Jerusalem to commemorate the heroes of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) that was under a siege for 872 days during World War II.

Putin will also meet with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.
