Employees Of Russia's Israeli Embassy Charged With Fraud - Investigators

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th June, 2019) Three staffers at the Russian Embassy in Israel have been charged with defrauding the mission of millions of rubles between 2012 and 2014, the Federal Investigative Committee said Thursday.

"Depending on their role, each suspect Anna Sidorova, Natalia Zhuravlyova and Irina Los has been charged with crimes ... (fraud and acting as an accessory to fraud)," the committee said in a statement.

Investigators believe that Zhuravlyova abused her position as a chief accountant to steal 49 million rubles ($751,800 at the current exchange rate) from the embassy's accounts with the help of Sidorova and Los.

"The criminals fulfilled their criminal intent by misleading the embassy's authority and forging receipts for the lease, taxes and other local fees," the investigators said.

They used illicit gains to buy property in Moscow and the Moscow Region, which has since been seized so that it can be resold to repay the embassy's losses. The attorney general's office will now decide how to proceed with the case.
