Macron, Trump To Take Part In Separate D-Day Commemorating Ceremony Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th June, 2019) French President Emmanuel Macron and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, will take part in joint a French-US ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day, marking the start of the Normandy invasion in World War II, in the French commune of Colleville-sur-Mer.

A separate international D-Day ceremony is expected to be held without the presence of world leaders.

Trump and Macron will also participate in a bilateral meeting to reinforce the close economic and security cooperation between both nations.

A number of foreign leaders, including UK Prime Minister Theresa May, are expected to visit France to attend the D-Day celebration.

D-Day, or the Normandy landings, was the largest seaborne invasion in history that took place on June 6, 1944, during World War II and was carried out by the Western Allies. D-Day marked the beginning of the liberation of German-occupied France and opening of the second front.
