US Diplomat to Join Nuclear Talks in Brazil, Argentina - State Dept.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Nonproliferation Christopher Ford will travel to Brazil and Argentina beginning this weekend to participate in conferences on weapons of mass destruction and nuclear terrorism, the State Department said in a press release on Friday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st May, 2019) US Assistant Secretary of State for Nonproliferation Christopher Ford will travel to Brazil and Argentina beginning this weekend to participate in conferences on weapons of mass destruction and nuclear terrorism, the State Department said in a press release on Friday.

"In Brazil, Dr. Ford will participate at the US-Brazil Disarmament and Nonproliferation Dialogue in Brasilia," the release said.

The meeting is part of an effort to strengthen US-Brazilian bilateral cooperation in nuclear disarmament and arms control and countering the proliferation of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, the release added.

In Argentina, the second stop on Ford's June 1-6 trip, the US diplomat will attend the 11th Plenary Meeting of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (GICNT) in Buenos Aires, the release said.

GICNT is a voluntary international partnership of 88 nations and six international organizations that are committed to strengthening global capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to nuclear terrorism, according to the GICNT website.
