Palestine Urges Muslim World to Reject Any Illegitimate Deal US Offers on Mideast -Reports

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki has called upon the Arab and Muslim states to reject any deal that the United States has to offer on the Israeli-Palestinian settlement and that goes contrary to UN resolutions, local media reported on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th May, 2019) Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki has called upon the Arab and Muslim states to reject any deal that the United States has to offer on the Israeli-Palestinian settlement and that goes contrary to UN resolutions, local media reported on Thursday.

The reports came amid White House Senior Advisor Jared Kushner's visit to the Middle East aimed at drumming up support for the Trump administration's long-awaited Palestinian-Israeli peace plan. Kushner is set to partially reveal the plan on June 25-26 during the US-led conference in Manama, Bahrain.

According to the WAFA news agency, during the preparatory meeting for the 14th session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Jeddah, Malki urged the organization's members to support the Palestinian leadership that was "confronting the continued and accelerated colonial measures of the Israeli occupation."

He also called on the OIC members to condemn Washington's decision to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. According to Malki, such actions were undermining the peacemaking efforts aimed at a two-state solution.

The 14th session of the OIC summit will be held on May 31 in the Saudi city of Mecca and will focus on the Palestinian cause and developments in the Arab, African and Asian regions.

For decades, Israel has been in conflict with Palestinians, who have been seeking diplomatic recognition for their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which are partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government has refused to recognize Palestine as an independent political and diplomatic entity and continues to build settlements in the occupied areas, despite objections from the United Nations.

The situation worsened in May 2018 after the United States relocated its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognized the holy city as the Israeli capital. After that, Palestine rejected Washington's unilateral mediation efforts in the peace process with Israel.

The conference in Bahrain was conceived as a part of US President Donald Trump's "deal of the century" for Israel and Palestine. Trump said that his long-awaited solution to the Middle Eastern conflict would focus on economic incentives.
