MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th May, 2019) The Kremlin has a clear view of the economic situation of the Russian people and knows what it must do to make improvements in the area, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday, adding that combating poverty is one of leadership's top priorities.
Last week, the Russian Federal State Statistics Service published a report finding that real income growth in the country slowed from 2.3 percent to 1.6 percent in April year-on-year.
"You know that the fight against poverty has been declared as one of the priorities for the government and the president. Therefore, we treat this soberly, we see and understand what is happening, and, most importantly, the leadership clearly knows what is needed to be done to change this trend toward positive results," Peskov told reporters, asked about how the Kremlin assessed the economic situation of Russian citizens.
The spokesman also noted that, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, negative trends in the population's welfare were related to both the international economic environment and some internal processes in Russia's economy. According to Peskov, national projects to combat poverty have been accelerated to respond to the problem.
