Kosovar President Says Russian National Was Detained For Opposing Police

BELGRADE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th May, 2019) The Kosovar police detained on Tuesday a Russian national because he opposed the actions of law enforcement officers, the president of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said.

The Kosovar police conducted earlier in the day a special operation in the northern regions of Kosovo, which are mainly populated by Serbs. Around 30 people were detained, including Russian citizen, an employee of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo, Mikhail Krasnoschekov. According to media reports, he was hospitalized with injuries.

"The operation was carried out at a vast territory in Kosovo. Officials and nationals of different countries were detained. One Russian man, who tried to get in the way of the police during this operation, was also detained," Thaci told reporters.

The president specified that the operation aimed at targeting "negative phenomena."

The Russian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned Krasnoschekov's detention.
