Trump Tells Democratic Leaders No Infrastructure Deal Without End to 'Phony' Probes

US President Donald Trump in a press conference on Wednesday said he told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer during a meeting at the White House that he would not do infrastructure until Congress stops investigating him

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) US President Donald Trump in a press conference on Wednesday said he told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer during a meeting at the White House that he would not do infrastructure until Congress stops investigating him.

"I walked into the room and I told Senator Schumer, Speaker Pelosi, 'I want to do infrastructure, but you know what, you can't do it under these circumstances, so get these phony investigations over with,'" Trump told reporters minutes after the two lawmakers left the White House.

Prior to the meeting, Pelosi accused Trump of a "cover up" amid growing calls from fellow House Democrats to begin impeachment proceedings. On Tuesday, Trump sent Pelosi and Schumer a letter saying that he would not work on infrastructure legislation until Congress passed the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.

Trump said he had fully cooperated with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, which found no collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia, but did not rule on whether Trump had broken the law by attempting to stop the probe.

Crimes were committed by Democrats in a "take down attempt at the president of the United States," Trump said.

Trump added that it was not possible to both investigate the president and work on issues such as rebuilding infrastructure, lowering drug prices and stopping a surge of illegal aliens across the southern US border.
