Khadim Rizvi, Pir Afzal Qadri granted bail in sedition case

Announcing the verdict on his bail petition, the LHC ordered Khadim Rizvi to submit surety bonds worth Rs5 lac.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 14th May, 2019) The Lahore High Court (LHC) has approved the bail of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Khadim Rizvi.

A two-member LHC bench, comprising Justice Qasim Ali Khan and Justice Asjad Javed Gharal, held the hearing of the case against Khadim Rizvi.

Announcing the verdict on his bail petition, the LHC ordered Khadim Rizvi to submit surety bonds worth Rs5 lac.

The LHC also approved TLP leader Pir Afzal Qadri’s bail. He has been released till July 15.

In the previous hearing, the LHC had sought a written guarantee from Khadim Rizvi's counsel that he won't create chaos if released on bail.

TLP chief Khadim Rizvi was taken in protective custody in November, 2018 under section 14 and 16 Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO) as law enforcement agencies launched crackdown against workers of his group.

The government later decided to initiate legal action against the TLP leaders. Khadim Rizvi was charged under terrorism and treason laws after it staged countrywide protests against the Supreme Court's acquittal of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman facing blasphemy charges.

The workers of TLP and other religious parties took to the streets and blocked major roads and intersections through sit ins against the apex court verdict in different parts of the country. The protests had paralysed routine life in major cities of the country for three days forcing the government to sign a controversial deal.

Earlier in February, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore had rejected requests of TLP chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi and Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) chief Pir Afzal Qadri for bail.
