US Pacific Fleet Carrier To Take Part In Northern Edge Drills After 10-Year Hiatus - Navy

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th May, 2019) A US Pacific Fleet aircraft carrier will participate for the first time in ten years in this year's Northern Edge military exercise, the US Navy said in a news release on Monday.

"Approximately 10,000 US military personnel are participating in exercise Northern Edge 2019, a joint training exercise hosted by US Pacific Air Forces," the release said. "For the first time in ten years, a Pacific Fleet aircraft carrier will be participating in the exercise."

The exercise is designed to sharpen tactical combat skills; improve command, control and communication relationships; and develop inter-operable plans and programs across the joint force, the Navy said.

The Northern Edge exercise, which will feature US military personnel from the continental United States and installations in the Indo-Pacific, is scheduled to take place on and above central Alaska ranges and in the Gulf of Alaska from May 13-24.
