WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st May, 2019) A safe zone in the north of Syria should be controlled by international actors such as the United States with local forces or the United Nations but not Turkey, Syrian Democratic Council( SDC)'s US Representative and Member of Presidential Committee Bassam Saker told Sputnik.Earlier in April, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoyn said that discussions on the safe zone in Syria's northeast continue but Ankara insists on Turkey's control over it.
"We are not accepting any control of Turkey of this safe zone, because we saw what happened in Afrin, when they attacked and occupied Afrin," Saker said. "They committed genocide in Afrin. That's why we'll never agree in any way that Turkey will control the area. It should be controlled internationally - by the United States with local forces or the United Nations."
