Fire Area at Russian Plant Producing Sarmat Missiles Up to 54,000 Square Feet - Source

The total area of the fire on the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant (Krasmash), where Russian Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles and Sineva ballistic missiles are produced, reached 5,000 square meters (54,000 square feet) on Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th April, 2019) The total area of the fire on the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant (Krasmash), where Russian Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles and Sineva ballistic missiles are produced, reached 5,000 square meters (54,000 square feet) on Friday, and a section of the roof collapsed, a source in the regional emergencies services told Sputnik.

Krasmash's roof caught fire earlier on Friday. Fire is already being extinguished.

"The fire area is 5,000 square meters, and the roof has collapsed," the source said.

The difficulty of the fire extinguishing procedure is rated at four, which is considered as the highest level in Krasnoyarsk, the source added.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry confirmed to Sputnik that the fire area was 5,000 square meters. It said that a section of the roof of the refrigeration systems-producing workshop had collapsed.

Krasmash produces Sineva ballistic missiles and new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles, expected to replace Voyevoda ballistic missiles. Modules of the upper stages of the Zenit and Proton carrier rockets are also produced there. Torches for the 2014 Winter Olympics, held in the Russian resort city of Sochi, have also been made at Krasmash.
