MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th April, 2019) Russia and Syria, working together, have helped more than 1.7 million Syrian citizens return to their homes, Russia's National Defense Control Center head Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev said Wednesday.

"As a result of the joint work between Russia and Syria, more than 1.72 million Syrian citizens have already returned to their homes, including over 1.29 million internally displaced persons and more than 429,000 refugees from the territories of foreign states," Mizintsev said during the Conference on International Security (MCIS) in Moscow.

The main flow of people returning to Syria goes through the borders with Jordan and Lebanon, while over 129,000 people have returned through the Nassib checkpoint.

As the Syrian government has regained control over most of the country's territories that were seized by terrorists, it is now focused on creating favorable conditions for repatriating refugees. Moscow is assisting Damascus in this process, along with providing humanitarian aid to civilians and being a guarantor of the ceasefire.
