Russian Firm to Issue Two-Pound Silver Coin to Mark Inauguration of Ukraine's Zelenskiy

A limited edition of 1-kilogram (2.2-pound) silver coins with the portrait of Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the winner of Ukraine's presidential race, will be issued in Russia by the time of his inauguration in hope of normalization of bilateral relations under the new administration in Kiev, the press service of Russian company Art-Grani announced on Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd April, 2019) A limited edition of 1-kilogram (2.2-pound) silver coins with the portrait of Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the winner of Ukraine's presidential race, will be issued in Russia by the time of his inauguration in hope of normalization of bilateral relations under the new administration in Kiev, the press service of Russian company Art-Grani announced on Tuesday.

"Our craftsmen ... have started working on a silver medal coin silver weighing 1 kilogram with the image of Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy," the company said in a statement.

According to the company, the coin should "become a symbol of hope for the improvement of relations between Russia and Ukraine."

The obverse of the coin will feature the president-elect and bear inscriptions "Volodymyr Zelenskiy" and "Servant of the people," the name of his party and the highly-popular sitcom where he played an ordinary teacher turned Ukrainian president.

The reverse will be decorated with the coat of arms of Ukraine, the date of the election victory and the inscription "President of Ukraine."

The company clarified that it issued coins in honor of important events and outstanding people. In particular, the company launched a project dubbed World Leaders a few years ago, having already issued coins depicting Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the leaders of Kazakhstan, Belarus and Azerbaijan. The press service added that a special coin was issued to mark the 2017 inauguration of US President Donald Trump.

The runoff between Volodymyr Zelenskiy and incumbent President Petro Poroshenko took place on Sunday. According to the country's Central Election Commission, Zelenskiy is winning by a landslide of 73.21 percent of the vote with 99 percent of ballots counted. Poroshenko has conceded his defeat.
