Sudan's Opposition Alliance For Freedom And Change Says Met With 12 Foreign Ambassadors

KHARTOUM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd April, 2019) The Alliance for Freedom and Change, a prominent opposition movement in Sudan, told Sputnik that they had met with 12 foreign ambassadors to discuss the issues of crisis settlement in the African country.

"We have held meeting with 12 ambassadors, who have reiterated that the they do not recognize the government of national dictatorship," Siddig Yousef, a senior member of the Alliance for Freedom and Change, said.

According to the politician, foreign diplomats, including from the United States, have vowed to raise the issue of transition of power in Sudan if the Transitional Military Council fails to hand over power to a new civilian administration.

On April 11, Sudanese President Omar Bashir, who had been in power for nearly 30 years, was detained by the country's military after months of protests that initially erupted over a hike in bread prices. They later escalated into nationwide demonstrations calling on Bashir to resign.

The military council took power in Sudan after overthrowing Bashir and vowed to hold a new election in two years. However, protests have continued, with the demonstrators demanding the military to cede power to a civilian government.
