Syria, Crimea Prepared New Agreements on Cooperation - Economy Minister

Syria and the Republic of Crimea have prepared a range of agreements on the development of cooperation in addition to those already signed, Syrian Economy Minister Samer Khalil told Sputnik on Friday

YALTA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th April, 2019) Syria and the Republic of Crimea have prepared a range of agreements on the development of cooperation in addition to those already signed, Syrian Economy Minister Samer Khalil told Sputnik on Friday.

In October 2018, a delegation from Crimea visited Damascus and held talks with top Syrian officials and business people. During the visit, the two countries signed a memorandum on economic cooperation, which, in particular, envisaged opening a trading house and a shipping company, organizing mutual deliveries of goods, and possibly organizing direct flights between Syria and Crimea.

"[At the moment], a number of issues proposed by the Crimean side are being discussed ... There was a proposal from the Syrian side as well. These issues are being promptly concerned in all aspects and a number of agreements have been prepared for today in addition to those that have already been signed," Khalil said.

He added that the two sides were discussing the development of resort tourism as well as the entertainment and leisure industry and cultural cooperation.

On Friday, head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov said during the ongoing Yalta International Economic Forum (YIEF) that the registration of the Crimean-Syrian trading house had already been completed and the creation of a joint shipping company was still ongoing. According to Aksyonov, Syria will deliver its citrus fruits, vegetables, olives and olive oil to Russia. The head of the Republic of Crimea noted that all plans for cooperation with Damascus will be specified during the forum in Yalta.

The Syrian delegation is participating in the forum for the second time this year.

The YIEF is an annual business event and one of the four biggest economic forums held in Russia. The conference, which started on Thursday and will run through Saturday, features sessions on international cooperation, investment, tourism, regional development projects, economy and finance, real estate and construction projects.

The forum is sponsored by the Government of the Republic of Crimea and the Yalta International Economic Forum Fund with the support of the Administration of the Russian President. Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency is one of the general media partners of the event.
