Gas Stations in Portugal Running Out of Fuel Amid 3rd Day of Tanker Driver Strike -Reports

Gas stations in Portugal are running dry on fuel as a result of a fuel tanker driver strike that has been going on in the country since Monday, local media reported on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th April, 2019) Gas stations in Portugal are running dry on fuel as a result of a fuel tanker driver strike that has been going on in the country since Monday, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to the Portugal News media outlet, thousands of motorists have swarmed gas stations eager to fuel up on dwindling gas supplies.

Several towns and cities in the country's southern Algarve region have already run out of gas, the news outlet said.

Government officials, as cited by the outlet, confirmed that a civil requisition order had been issued on Tuesday that should ensure a 40 percent minimum of normal fuel supplies to gas stations in Portugal's major cities Lisbon and Porto.

On Tuesday, Portugal declared an energy crisis, invoking labor legislation to order the strikers to maintain 100 percent of normal fuel supplies to critical services like ambulances, airports and fire trucks.

The tanker driver union said it would comply with minimum service requirements, but would continue the strike until a satisfactory agreement was reached with employers concerning their pay and working conditions.
