Pakistan Petroleum goes for first international venture

The company spuds first well in Iraq’s Mesopotamian area that has several large oil and gas fields

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 17th April 2019) State-owned Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has become the first Pakistani company which went for an international venture in oil and gas exploration.

The company spud first well in Iraq’s Block 8, a site having rich reserves of oil and gas.

“Pakistan Petroleum Limited, which is the operator of Block 8 in Iraq, spud the first exploration well, Madain-1,” the company stated.

According to media reports, the block is located in the Mesopotamian basin and it is surrounded by areas that have several large oil and gas fields. The PPL is working along with a Chinese drilling contractor Zepec.

Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan has appreciated the progress and said it was good news for the petroleum division. It proved, he added, that the Pakistani nation was capable of doing every work once it was provided opportunity.

He said soon the people will hear good news in every sector.
