US Approves LNG Production, Export Terminal With Final Environmental Report - Regulator

A proposed liquefied natural gas production plant and associated pipelines needed to supply an existing export terminal has been approved with modifications to minimize environmental damage impact, the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) said in a report on Wednesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th April, 2019) A proposed liquefied natural gas production plant and associated pipelines needed to supply an existing export terminal has been approved with modifications to minimize environmental damage impact, the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) said in a report on Wednesday.

"The FERC staff concludes that approval of the proposed Project, with the mitigation measures recommended in the EIS [Environmental Impact Statement report], would have some adverse environmental impacts; however, these impacts would be avoided or reduced to less-than-significant levels," the release said.

The report included site-specific mitigation measures that the oil and natural gas company Gulf LNG should implement to reduce the environmental harm impacts that would otherwise result from construction of the project, the release said.

The report is needed before FERC Commissioners vote on final approval for the project by Gulf LNG, which plans to collect dry natural gas through a network of US pipelines, liquefy the gas and modify an existing terminal to export the gas, the release said.

A recent forecast by the Energy Department predicted that US liquefied natural gas exports would reach 8.9 billion cubic feet per day by the end of 2019, placing the United States in the top three of the world's largest producers along with Australia and Qatar.

There are currently three large-scale US liquefied natural gas export terminals in operation and three under construction, according to the Energy Department.
