Over 50% of UK Citizens Say Country Needs Leader Who 'Can Break Rules' - Research Group

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th April, 2019) Fifty-four percent of UK citizens think their country needs a strong leader who is willing to break the rules, a report surveying the UK political climate published on Monday by an independent UK research institute said.

"People are pessimistic about the country's problems and their possible solution, with sizable numbers willing to entertain radical political changes," the Audit of Political Engagement 16 report published by the Hansard Society said.

According to the report, over half of the UK public was pessimistic about the state of the United Kingdom, with 56 percent of people thinking that their country was in a state of political decline and 66 percent of people saying that most of the big issues facing their country did not have solutions.

In addition, the report said that the public opinion of the UK system of governance was at a record low since audits started 15 years ago, with 72 percent of people saying that the UK government needed 'quite a lot' or 'a great deal' of improvement.

Additionally, only 25 percent of the UK public said they had confidence in the way the UK Parliament was dealing with Brexit.

The report was based on a survey conducted with a sample of 1,198 UK adults between November 30 and December 12, 2018.

The UK government has experienced major turbulence ahead of the country's departure from the European Union, having its negotiated Brexit deal rejected three times by parliament and facing a possible no-deal scenario in a few days.
