The United Nations General Assembly will hold a special session to mark the International Labour Organization's 100th anniversary with the participation of ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, the ILO said in a press release on Monday

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th April, 2019) The United Nations General Assembly will hold a special session to mark the International Labour Organization's 100th anniversary with the participation of ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, the ILO said in a press release on Monday.

"ILO Director-General Guy Ryder is in New York from 7 to 10 April for a series of high-level events at United Nations headquarters, including a special session of the UN General Assembly and engagement with an international gathering of youth representatives, to mark the ILO's 100th anniversary," the release said.

Ryder's agenda includes meetings with representatives of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) youth forum to address global challenges, including the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, according to the release.

The commemoration session is set to take place on Wednesday and will focus on the future work of the ILO, the release said. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will also participate in the meeting and deliver a speech.

The ILO was established on April 1, 1919, with the adoption of the organization's constitution by the Paris Peace Conference after the end of World War I.
