MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st April, 2019) Russian courts have convicted 490 people under terrorism articles and assistance to terrorist organizations articles for the last year and a half, the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation reported.According to the department's data, in 2017 and the first half of 2018, 39 people were convicted under article 205 (terrorist attack) of the Criminal Code. During the same period, 451 people were convicted under terror incitement, training, participating in terrorist organizations and hostage-taking articles.
Most of the cases were considered by military courts.
On December 28, 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a package of laws designed for preventing the spread of extremist ideology in prisons, with one of measures stating that persons convicted under related articles are to be subjected to isolated detention.
