US, Jamaica Become Partners Under Hague Convention on Child Abduction - State Department

The United States and Jamaica signed a partnership under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, US Department of State said in a statement on Monday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st April, 2019) The United States and Jamaica signed a partnership under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, US Department of State said in a statement on Monday.

"On April 1, 2019, the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction entered into force between the United States and Jamaica," the statement said.

The Hague Convention provides a civil law mechanism for parents seeking the return of children who have been wrongfully removed from their countries in violation of custodial rights.

"The Convention is important because it establishes an internationally recognized legal framework to resolve international parental child abduction cases," the statement said.

The Hague Convention was signed October 25, 1980 and 100 states have signed it.

The United States joined the Hague Convention in 1993, while Russia in 2011. However, the two countries have not signed a partnership agreement under the Convention.
