TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st April, 2019) South Korea may invite North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to the South Korea-ASEAN summit that will take place in Busan on November 25-26, local media reported on Monday.

"The country will begin consultations with ASEAN countries based on such proposal [to invite Kim], and depending on the outcome of their consultations, the country may invite Chairman Kim Jong-un," the Yonhap news agency reported citing a source from South Korean presidential office Cheong Wa Dae.

The source also stated that the initiative to invite Kim to the summit came from some ASEAN states.

Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong Un have held three meetings in total so far. This summit may become the platform for their forth meeting.

In November, South Korea will host the special South Korea-ASEAN summit in a port city of Busan, 450 kilometers south of Seoul. The conference will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the dialogue between South Korea and ten ASEAN states. It is also to review the development of South Korea-ASEAN relations over the past 30 years and to help think them through facing the next 30 years, Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Relations Yoon Do-han said as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.

ASEAN and South Korea initiated sectoral dialogue relations in November 1989. Since then Seoul has signed many agreements with the organization in order to deepen the cooperation.
