LONDON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th March, 2019) UK parliamentarians in a vote on Wednesday supported legislation delaying the country's withdrawal from the European Union until April 12 or May 22, depending on whether the lawmakers would support the Brexit deal negotiated by the government of UK Prime Minister Theresa May.
The legislation was adopted in a 441-105 vote.
The United Kingdom was initially supposed to leave the European Union on March 29.
The sides have reached a withdrawal deal. However, the UK parliament has failed to pass the agreement, prompting May to ask the bloc for extending the "divorce" deadline.
Last week, EU heads of state and government agreed to give London until May 22 if the UK lawmakers pass the withdrawal deal this week or until April 12 if the deal is not adopted within the agreed time frame.
