WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd March, 2019) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg discussed plans for next month's NATO Foreign Affairs meeting in Washington, where members will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the trans-Atlantic alliance and address its current challenges, US Department of State Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said in a news release.
"Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo spoke today with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. They discussed plans for the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers to be held April 3-4 in Washington, where Allies will mark the 70th anniversary of NATO's founding and take stock of the Alliance's efforts to address the full range of challenges facing the Alliance," Palladino said in the release on Friday.
Pompeo and Stoltenberg also talked about the NATO Secretary General's planned address before a joint session of the US Congress.
US President Donald Trump has threatened to pull out of the alliance if NATO members do not contribute more to defense spending.
