Moscow Says Concerned About Attempts to Provoke Violence in Belgrade March 16-17

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern about attempts by some opposition representatives to provoke violence in Belgrade on March 16-17, and said it hoped the situation in Serbia would remain within the legal framework

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th March, 2019) The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern about attempts by some opposition representatives to provoke violence in Belgrade on March 16-17, and said it hoped the situation in Serbia would remain within the legal framework.

"The attempts by some representatives of the opposition to provoke violence in Belgrade on March 16-17 cause serious concern," the ministry said.

"We hope the situation in Serbia will remain within the constitutional and legal framework," the department said.

On Saturday and Sunday, anti-government demonstrations organized by the opposition to the current Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic took place in Belgrade. On Saturday, protesters entered the building of the national television and radio station RTS with demands to change the editorial policy and threatened employees. On Sunday, the opposition tried to break through the cordons near the residence of the president and the police department.
