UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th March, 2019) A military scenario in Venezuela is unacceptable and a solution to the crisis cannot be imposed from the outside, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said during a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday."We believe that no military development from inside or outside of the country would be acceptable, and the solution cannot be and should never be imposed from the outside," Mogherini said.
Mogherini called for a political and democratic settlement of the Venezuela crisis through international initiatives such as the EU-Latin America contact group, which seeks to establish a political process leading to new presidential elections in Venezuela.
Any politicization of humanitarian aid delivery to Venezuela should be avoided, Mogherini also said, adding that the European Union works with UN agencies to provide humanitarian relief to the Venezuelan people.
The crisis in Venezuela worsened when opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself interim president on January 23. The United States and 54 countries soon recognized Guaido as Venezuela's president.
Incumbent President Nicolas Maduro whose new term began on January 10, said Guaido is a puppet of the United States and accused Washington of attempting to organize a coup d'etat in Venezuela.
Russia, China, Turkey, Bolivia and several other countries have said they recognize Maduro as the Venezuela's only legitimate president.
