HOUSTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th March, 2019) Venezuela will retain its presidency of the Conference of Ministers of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 2019, but the president of the conference is a ceremonial title without any executive authority, OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo said Tuesday.

"Venezuela is the president of the conference of ministers in 2019 and they are also co-chair of the OPEC, non-OPEC Ministerial [conference]," Barkindo said during a press conference at CERAWeek in Houston, Texas.

The current presidency of the Conference, which is a rotating one, is on the head of Venezuela. The President of the Conference has no executive authority in the organization, this is merely ceremonial ... We will continue in the same fashion," Barkindo explained.
