Minister announces to construct 2 Rural Health Centers, 9 BHUs in capital

On the instruction of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSR&C) has recently launched first ever Health Strategy of Islamabad

ISLAMABAD (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 12th March, 2019) On the instruction of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSR&C) has recently launched first ever Health Strategy of Islamabad.Today, to have consultations with the chairmen of the union councils of Islamabad, the Federal Minister of NHSR&C Mr. Amer Mehmood Kiani called a meeting with the chairmen of UCs Islamabad. Objective was not only to brief them on the new developments in the district health system but also to get views and suggestions of the peoples representatives.

Mr Kiani told Prime Minister of Pakistan have issued the instruction that each union council of Islamabad should have at least one health facility and for this 2 more RHCs and 9 BHUs will be built in coming years in the rural areas of Islamabad.He also told that a comprehensive Primary health care system will be developed for the district to ensure timely availability of health services at the doorstep of communities, including recruitment of 600 more LHWs for the country.

The scope of services in hospitals are also being upgraded along with building of Islamabad General Hospital at Tarlai, construction of new building of Poly Clinic, expansion of National Institute of Rehabilitative Medicine.MNA of Islamabad, Mr. Ali Awan stated: "I am thankful to the Federal Minister to arranging the meeting with UC chairmen on such a short notice and that plan presented by the Minister is ambitious having an excellent opportunity for the people of Islamabad to improve their health outcomes.

Minister said Ministry has already inaugurated a Model Center for Infectious Diseases Control in Islamabad Capital Tertiary (ICT) on March 02, 2019. The center is called a model center because it will be dedicated for the screening, testing and treatment of hepatitis c patients with integration of other infectious diseases like Tuberculosis (TB). The center has been established in federal Government's Civil Surgeon Dispensary G-7/3.The Minister said it will be an innovative center because for the first time the underserved population (of almost 100,000 individuals) living in the slums of ICT will be screened for Hepatitis C and TB at their doorstep and those found positive for hepatitis c and TB will be referred to this center of free of cost testing, treatment and follow up.

The center is equipped with the latest diagnostic machines like GeneXpert and medicines which have more than 95% cure rates with almost no side effects. The idea is to provide good quality testing, treatment and free Health services to the patients under one roof. NNI
