MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th March, 2019) The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) mourns the loss of two of its staff members after the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane and awaits the results of an investigation into the catastrophe, Monika Gehner, the spokeswoman for the ITU, told Sputnik on Tuesday.

On Sunday, a Nairobi-bound Boeing 737 Max 8 crashed minutes after take-off from the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa. All 157 people from over 30 countries who were on board were killed.

"It is with great sadness that ITU announces that two ITU staff members were on board the Ethiopian Airlines flight that was lost on 10 March 2019 ... ITU awaits the investigation report of this tragedy," Gehner said.

The spokeswoman added that the ITU would continue to use Ethiopian Airlines for work and travel when necessary.

"Ethiopian Airlines is still considered an acceptable airline," Gehner said.

The latest crash in Ethiopia is the second fatal incident involving the narrow-body aircraft in less than five months. In late October 2018, another Boeing 737 Max 8, operated by Indonesia's Lion Air, plunged into the Java Sea shortly after take-off, claiming the lives of 189 people.
