Rostec Refutes SIPRI Data on Russian Arms Exports Decrease

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's (SIPRI) data about a 17 percent decline in Russian arms exports are untrue, Russian state corporation Rostec told Sputnik

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th March, 2019) The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's (SIPRI) data about a 17 percent decline in Russian arms exports are untrue, Russian state corporation Rostec told Sputnik.

According to a recent report by SIPRI, which is considered one of the most influential international sources of information on the issue, Russia remains the second largest exporter of military equipment and weapons after the United States. At the same time, SIPRI said arms exports by Russia "decreased by 17 per cent between 2009-13 and 2014-18, in particular due to the reduction in arms imports by India and Venezuela", whereas US arms exports "grew by 29 per cent" in the same periods.

"The SIPRI data on the fall in the volume of Russian arms exports do not correspond to reality. Big questions arise about the methodology of these calculations. The growth of defense industry cooperation sales volumes has been registered for over 10 past years. The delivery plan in 2018 has been fulfilled in full by [Russian state arms exporter] Rosoboronexport, and the volume was a record, reaching $13.7 billion," Rostec said.
