PM Khan makes telephonic contact with Iran President Hassan Rouhani

Leaders discuss bilateral and regional issues and security situation. Khan likely visit Iran in the near future

LAHORE- (Pakistan Point News- 9th March 2019) Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has made telephonic contact with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday.

Both the leaders, according to the local tv report, discussed bilateral and regional issues and security situation.

The move considered important in the backdrop of Saudi Arabia’s rising influence on Pakistan. Iran had raised the concern over the statement made by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubair in Islamabad and declared Tehran the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the region. Adel made these comments while sitting with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

The killing of 27 Iranian revolutionary guards in a militant attack last month had also escalated the tension between the two Islamic neighbors. There were strong voices in Iran who blamed Pakistan based militants behind the attack.

PM Khan’s contact with the Iranian president in this overall scenario is of great importance.

Official sources said Imran Khan is likely to visit Iran in near future. Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed also predicted a meeting between the leaders of both the countries in the near future.
