Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan in hot waters over anti-Hindu remarks

A video of the minister had surfaced where he referred to the Hindus as "cow urine-drinking people".

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 5th March, 2019) Punjab Information Minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan has landed himself in hot water for making remarks against the Hindu community.

The outspoken minister is often a target of criticism over his certain remarks and this time it was upon his remarks against the Hindus.

A video of the minister had surfaced where he referred to the Hindus as "cow urine-drinking people".

"We are Muslims and we have a flag, the flag of Maula Alia's bravery, and flag of Hazrat Umara's valour. You don't have that flag; it isn't in your hands," Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan had said.

"Don't operate under the delusion that you are seven times better than us. What we have, you can't have, you idol-worshippers," he said in a video that went viral on the social media.

These remarks were met with harsh criticism as nobody is ready to tolerate such remarks against any religious minority in Pakistan.

A statement came from PTI’s social media account, saying it condemns the derogatory remarks by the provincial minister

“The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) #PTI Social Media condemns derogatory remarks. We respect all religions, Quaid said, “You may belong to any religion/caste/creed, that has nothing to do with business of State”, on same principles @ImranKhanPTI has always given minorities status they rightly deserve in Pakistan,” the tweet read.

Meanwhile, other party leaders like Asad Umar, Dr Shireen Mazari and Naeem ul Haque also reacted to the remarks.

Finance Minister Asad Umar said, “Hindus of Pakistan are as much a part of the fabric of the nation as I am. Remember the flag of Pakistan is not just green....its not complete without the white which represents the minorities. Quaide Azam's whole struggle was for a country free of discrimination.”

Human Rights Minister Dr Shireen Mazari said, “Absolutely condemn this. No one has the right to attack anyone else's religion.”

Special Assistant to prime minister Naeem ul Haque said that the derogatory and insulting remarks against the Hindu community by Fayyaz Chohan demand strict action.

He said that the PTI government will not tolerate this nonsense from a senior member of the government or from anyone. Action will be taken after consulting the Chief Minister, he said.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal also condemned the remarks, saying Pakistan proudly owns the white in the flag as much as the green.
