Supreme Court restricts TV Channels from airing Indian content

The Supreme Court suspended High Court’s decision removing ban on airing Indian content on cable TV network.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 5th March, 2019) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has restricted Pakistani tv channels from airing Indian content.

The Supreme Court suspended High Court’s decision removing ban on airing Indian content on cable TV network.

The Supreme Court also fixed Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority’s (PEMRA) appeal for hearing.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry had said that Cinema Exhibitors Association has boycotted Indian content and that no Indian movie is to be released in Pakistan.

In one of his tweets, he said that PEMRA has been instructed to act against advertisements which are made in India.

The PEMRA had in 2016 imposed a blanket ban on airing of Indian content on satellite tv channels and FM radios which was later challenged by Lahore High Court.
