Lavrentyev, Vershinin, French Presidential Envoy Discussed Idlib -Russian Foreign Ministry

Russian Presidential Envoy Alexander Lavrentyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed with French Presidential Envoy Francois Senemaud the situation in Syria's Idlib and the launch of the work of the Syrian constitutional committee, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st March, 2019) Russian Presidential Envoy Alexander Lavrentyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed with French Presidential Envoy Francois Senemaud the situation in Syria's Idlib and the launch of the work of the Syrian constitutional committee, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.

The Russian-French consultations were held on March 1.

"The sides substantively discussed the situation on the ground in Syria with a focus on the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone and Syria's northeastern areas. During the conversation, prospects for advancing the political process, including the launch of the constitutional committee, were also considered," the ministry said.

"At the same time, the sides stressed the necessity to increase international assistance to Syria for the purpose of post-conflict restoration, including the provision of conditions for the safe and voluntary return of refugees and internally displaced persons," it said.
