HANOI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th February, 2019) Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc thanked US President Donald Trump on Wednesday for choosing the Vietnamese capital as the venue for holding a high-level denuclearization summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
"Thank you very much for choosing Vietnam as the venue for the second summit. We have been working very closely with the United States and the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] to promote this meeting to be a successful one from our own capacity," Phuc said at a meeting with Trump, broadcast by Global news.
The prime minister also reaffirmed determination to promote bilateral ties.
"We will continue to promote bilateral cooperation, especially in trade," Phuc added.
The second Trump-Kim summit will start in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi later on Wednesday and will last through Thursday.
At their previous summit, which was held in Singapore in June, Trump and Kim pledged to make effort to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, and this time they are expected to discuss concrete steps toward this goal.
