Moscow Worried Over US Claims Cuba, Nicaragua Being 'Next in Line' After Venezuela -Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday that Moscow was concerned about recent US statements on Cuba and Nicaragua following the destiny of Venezuela

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th February, 2019) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday that Moscow was concerned about recent US statements on Cuba and Nicaragua following the destiny of Venezuela.

Last week, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington not only would have Venezuelans "understand that the yoke of authoritarianism that has been foisted upon them is not necessary," but would also "work diligently" to do the same for Cubans and Nicaraguans.

"I would like to bring to attention the worrying statements from Washington officials publicly saying that the days of [Venezuelan President Nicolas] Maduro are over and that Cuba and Nicaragua will be next in line," Lavrov said at the Russia-India-China summit in Wuzhen.

Lavrov also slammed the US Monroe Doctrine envisioning that Washington, in violation of the international law, could use force wherever it saw fit and uproot governments that were opposing it.
