Pompeo, Vietnam Foreign Minister Discuss Regional Security at Hanoi Meeting - State Dept.

US State Secretary Michael Pompeo and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh discussed joint efforts to advance security in the Indo-Pacific region during a meeting in Hanoi, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said on Tuesday

HANOI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th February, 2019) US State Secretary Michael Pompeo and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh discussed joint efforts to advance security in the Indo-Pacific region during a meeting in Hanoi, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said on Tuesday.

"The Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues," Palladino said in a readout of Tuesday's meeting. "They affirmed the strength of the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership and our joint efforts to promote peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region."

The two leaders held their meeting in Vietnam's capital ahead of the planned summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un.

Pompeo thanked his Vietnamese counterpart for hosting the two-day summit, which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
