Most US Blacks, For First Time This Century, Describe Relations With Whites As Bad - Poll

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd February, 2019) A majority of US African-American voters, for the first time in surveys going back to September 11, 2001, now describe black-white race relations as bad, a new Gallup poll revealed.

"The latest poll marks the first time that more than half of black respondents have assessed black-white relations as somewhat or very bad," Gallup said on Thursday in a press release summarizing the latest survey.

Some 59 percent of blacks rated race relations with whites as bad, compared with 45 percent of whites with a similar view, the poll revealed.

Less than a than a year after the September 11 terrorist attacks, 68 percent of black respondents assessed race relations in the country between whites and blacks as very or somewhat good - nearly equal to the 70 percent for whites.

The biggest change has taken place since 2013, a trend that Gallup attributed to high-profile police shootings of black citizens, a neo-Nazi rally and ensuing violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, and racially charged attacks on a black church in Charleston, South Carolina.
