MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th February, 2019) The number of people killed in the fire that broke out in a hotel located in the Indian capital of New Delhi increased to 17, local media reported on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, a fire broke out in Hotel Arpit Palace, located in New Delhi's Karol Bagh district. It was reported initially that at least nine people were killed.
While the death toll has climbed to 17, three people have been injured, the NDTV broadcaster specified. While most of the deaths were caused by suffocation, two people died when they jumped from the window in an attempt to save themselves.
All of the injured people have been taken to hospital.
The cause of the fire has not been established yet.
