OSCE Chairperson Urges Kiev To Allow Russian Monitors At Presidential Election

PRAGUE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th February, 2019) OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak urges Kiev to make sure that monitors from all countries that are part of the organization's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), including Russia, are allowed to observe the upcoming presidential election in Ukraine, a spokesman for the Slovak Foreign Ministry told Sputnik on Friday.

According to Boris Gandel, the OSCE chairperson-in-office held a phone conversation on Friday with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.

"Miroslav Lajcak has called on the Ukrainian leadership to continue searching for all possible ways to ensure the accreditation of all ODIHR monitors for the presidential election," the spokesman said.

On Thursday, the Ukrainian parliament passed a bill banning Russian monitors from observing elections in Ukraine.
