WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th February, 2019) The Trump administration wants intra-Afghan peace talks and a ceasefire to be implemented as soon as possible, US Special Envoy to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad said on Friday.
"We would like both... intra-Afghan dialogue and the ceasefire to happen ASAP [as soon as possible]," Khalilzad said during remarks at the US Institute of Peace.
Khalilzad at the end of January announced that Taliban and US officials during meetings in Qatar reached a framework of a peace deal in principle that would call for American troops to exit in exchange for assurances from the insurgents that Afghanistan would not become a platform for terrorists.
