Russian engineers with the Foundation for Advanced Research Projects (FPI) have announced successful trials of a superconducting electric motor that holds promise for new types of aircraft
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th February, 2019) Russian engineers with the Foundation for Advanced Research Projects (FPI) have announced successful trials of a superconducting electric motor that holds promise for new types of aircraft.
"A successful demonstration test of a 500-kilowatt high-temperature superconducting electric motor has been concluded in Moscow," the state-run research center said in a statement.
The FPI said superconducting motors were smaller and lighter than conventional ones, unlocking new potential for aircraft such as air taxis with vertical takeoff and landing.
